Stage 1 of Renovation Project Complete
With the aim of providing the most outstanding service available to our community, we are proud to announce the completion of stage 1 of a 4 part renovation to its facilities. Through a generous grant from the Tocker Foundation, assistance from the City of Chico, local businesses LO Transport and Lowe’s Home Improvement, as well as many dedicated volunteers, the library has remodeled and modernized the appearance of its main room. This includes the replacement of the pier and beam foundation and wood flooring with concrete, taking walls back to its original plaster, repairing, texturing and painting, and the installment of new furniture, shelving, and circulation/business area. Repairs to lighting and changes in shelf layout have provided a more efficient use of space, giving a more open and inviting feel to the main room.
Stage two of the renovation is in the works and will involve the replacement of the storefront, including new framing and tempered, low-e, safety glass in all windows. Stage three will consist of the renovation of the back room, addition of a second bathroom, and replacement of the remaining pier and beam foundation and wood flooring with concrete. Additional grant funds will be sought to cover the cost of new shelving and furniture to complete the renovations to the back room, children’s, teen and computer areas. Stage four of the renovation will look to provide library patrons and community members with an outdoor patio/deck area which may be used during or after hours to connect to the library’s free Wi-Fi services.
