Evans and Smith Receive Lavonia Hawkins Scholarship

Chico Public Library, Inc would like to congratulate CISD students, Joseph Evans and Madeline Smith on receiving Lavonia Hawkins Scholarships for the Fall 2016 semester.

Chico Public Library, Inc would like to congratulate CISD students, Joseph Evans and Madeline Smith on receiving Lavonia Hawkins Scholarships for the Fall 2016 semester. The scholarship, now in its fifth year, benefits Chico ISD graduates who have completed at least one full-time semester of college and be seeking a bachelor's degree or higher in the field of education. 

Joseph Smith, the son of Joe and Louise Evans, is a 2015 graduate of Chico ISD and is a sophomore attending Midwestern State University. Joseph is working on a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on English/Language Arts. In recognition of his academic excellence the Chico Public Library is proud to award Joseph a $3,000 scholarship for the Fall 2016 semester. 

Madeline Smith, daughter of Chris and Kelly Laney, is a 2014 graduate of Chico High School. Majoring in English is currently attending the University of Houston. Madeline looks to teach English composition. Having previously awarded the Lavonia Hawkins scholarship to Madeline in 2015, Chico Public Library, Inc is happy to support of her continued academic efforts with a $2,000 scholarship for the Fall 2016 semester.
