Free Library Card
- Wise County residents and their children may obtain a free Chico Public Library Card.
- Teen and Adult library card holders may borrow books, DVDs, and Music CDs.
- Children may borrow books and Music CDs.
- Applicants for library cards must provide a valid Texas driver’s license and a utility bill as proof of residence.
- Reading materials can be borrowed for two weeks. Overdue books are assessed a 15¢ late fee each day it is overdue. However, as of November 1, 2021 late fees for reading materials will be waived upon their return.
- DVDs and Music CDs can be borrowed for three days, including the day of check out. DVDs and Music CDs returned after the due date are assessed a $1.00 late fee each day it is over due.
- Public computers and Wi-Fi are available to the public. Those who wish to use public computers or Wi-Fi agree to abide by library internet policies.
- If a replacement card is needed it will cost $3.00.

The Library's Collection
Chico Public Library, Inc provides its patrons with a wide range of books in print, including Adult Fiction, Juvenile Fiction, and Easy Readers for children. We have a good selection of large print books available, as well as a non-fiction/reference section. We also have a large DVD collection, as well as audio books, and CDs. The library participates in the Inner Library Loan Program, allowing patrons access to books from libraries across the country. We also rent the current most popular books available through McNaughton, which allows us to keep high volume usage books at a substantial discount, and return those less used by our patrons
Reference Assistance
Our staff is always ready to assist in finding reference materials and if we don't have what you need here, we will do our best to find and provide them.
Youth and Teen Services
In addition to its annual Summer Library Programs, the Chico Public Library (CPL) provides a variety of weekly and monthly programming for children from birth onward. A Family Place Library, CPL offers weekly play dates for infants, toddlers and their grown-ups and connects families to local family-centered resources.
Weekly STREAM-based after school programs encourage school aged children to explore a variety of interests and build a love for life-long learning. The library offers volunteer opportunities for tweens and teens to gain work experience and community service credit for college. Chico Public Library Inc also offers scholarship funds for CHS graduates seeking a Bachelors Degree in Education.
Technology Services
The Library also provides computers, laptops and tablets with Internet access for patron and program use. Library visitors may access library Wi-Fi services via personal devices. Fax, scan and Copy services are available for a small fee.
CPL is a member of the North Texas Independent Digital Consortium which allows library patrons to access a sizeable collection of eBooks and downloadable audio books via the Libby App.
Internet Policy for Public Use
The Chico Public Library, Inc. provides computers with access to the Internet for patron's use. Library staff cannot control access points that change, often rapidly and unpredictably. Users are hereby notified that they are responsible for the choice of sites that they visit.
The library is a forum for all points of view and adheres to the principles of intellectual freedom as expressed in the Library Bill of Rights formulated by the American Library Association.
As with other materials, restriction of a child's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian. Library computers have the ability to restrict children to a special platform that does not allow Internet access, or restrict children to Internet access in researching in Encarta without be able to access other Internet sites. Users under the age of eighteen must have a Parental Release signed. Users over the age of 18, as stated on a valid driver’s license or birth certificate, must sign the responsibility form. Although the library requests that patrons exhibit good taste in their choice of Internet sites in the public computer area, The Chico Public Library, Inc. will not be responsible for any sites accessed on the Internet on purposefully or accidentally.
