Lavonia Hawkins Estate
Chico Public Library, Inc. is conducting an estate sale
Lavonia Hawkins, long time resident of Chico, TX, touched the lives of many of our residents as a teacher in the Chico School District. Mrs. Hawkins' love of reading is apparent through her continuous efforts to improve our community through the establishment of the library and her generosity in leaving her estate to Chico Public Library, Inc.
Now, in accordance with her wishes, we will be conducting an auction of the contents of the H. F. & Lavonia Hawkins home. All proceeds will go to Chico Public Library, Inc to support daily operation and to enhance our collection of books, dvd's, computers, as well as our annual Summer Reading Program.
Items up for auction include antique furniture, books, and collectables, as well as items collected from around the world. House will open at 8 am with auction beginning at 10 am and running until all items are sold. Once the sale is complete and the property has been prepared, the home will be sold. These proceeds will also go to the operation of the library.
Mrs. Hawkins was also a proponent of continued education and requested that the library establish the Lavonia Hawkins Memorial Scholarship Fund for women wishing to become teachers. Through additional property owned by the Hawkins Estate the library will be able to set up this fund, and we hope to have this opportunity available in the near future.
